The Chain Chomp Journey

When I first had the idea to replicate my chain chomp lamp(fig .2) I was not aware of how ambitious I was being. The entire project required multiple levels of tweaking and compromising that ultimately resulted into an amalgamation of two reference objects (which you can see above). The reason why I call this project a journey is not because it was long and drawn out (even though it felt that way), its because the entire process was a vast learning experience that I will ever forget.

I delved deep into abstract cubism during my studies at UNF, and it was then that I discovered the works of Mark Di Suvero, John Henry, and Alexander Liberman. These artists inspired me to create a large red sculpture using abstract curvilinear forms. The red color contrasts with the green surroundings, and I love how all of these artists incorporate the ground or sculpture yard as part of the piece itself. When I saw this, I knew that I had to do the same with my work.
